Understanding Furmark®: The Global Certification And Traceability System

The Furmark® certification is a global initiative established by the International Fur Federation (IFF) to provide assurance about animal welfare and manufacturing standards. It is a traceability system that covers the entire supply chain, from farm or wild source to the finished garment. For a product to carry the Furmark® label, it must meet stringent criteria based on the IFF's Fur Standards. This includes independent audits of farms against scientific welfare protocols (for species like mink and fox) and ethical sourcing standards for wild fur. The system also tracks that the fur has been processed and dressed in certified facilities that meet environmental regulations. For consumers, the Furmark® label is intended to guarantee that the fur they are purchasing is sourced responsibly, ethically, and sustainably.
